			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The development of a positive self-concept, or healthy self-esteem, takes on a big role in life success and happiness.</p>
<p>Self-esteem is quite simply how we feel about ourselves and our behavior clearly reflects those feelings. The way we talk about ourselves is quite important in everything we do. What we think determines how we feel and how we feel determines how we behave.</p>
<p>A strong positive self-concept allows individuals to open themselves to new opportunities and challenges both personally and professionally. Individuals who lack self-esteem are less willing to move from their safety zone and so miss opportunities in life, love, and success.</p>
<p>We can often place the blame for low self-esteem on people in our past for example our parents, teachers, or other important people. However once we reach adulthood, we need to take responsibility for our own self-concept.</p>
<p>In lots of ways self-esteem is a self-fulfilling prophecy. People with a positive self-image will continually reinforce that image with new successes whereas those with a negative self-image will look for new failures to reinforce that image. If your self-esteem needs bolstering you then should find ways to bolster it.</p>
<p>One way to increase your self-concept is by means of self-talk. Psychologists have discovered that negative self-talk is behind depression and anxiety. It is essential to emphasize to ourselves both positive self-statements and mental pictures. Sometimes when we talk about our positive qualities, we think we seem arrogant, so writing them on a worksheet or in a journal gives you a chance to list them without feeling conceited. Getting self esteem by listing your positives is a good way to build confidence.</p>
<p>Everyone, young and old, alike can benefit from this method of raising their self-esteem. Listing your positive qualities will give you a chance to reflect on the good things about yourself and therefore, raise your self-esteem. This list should be kept in a journal or a specific worksheet for the task.</p>
<p>You should have a journal specifically for listing your positive features; and you should give yourself plenty of time for the task. Think about all the things you consider to be good about yourself; your achievements, accomplishments, talents and abilities and write them in your journal or on a worksheet. If you cannot think of any more ideas, leave the task for a few hours or days and come back later.</p>

<p>Many who struggle through life controlling problems, take a big blow to their self esteem. You may be trying to overcome an addiction of some kind. Society has a league table of how bad this addiction is over that addiction, for example, that doing drugs is worse than drinking alcohol. If you are the addicted person, it doesn’t matter if it’s an eating disorder or sex addiction, it will affect your self esteem just the same, and your family will also be affected by what you are going through and how you feel about yourself.</p>
<p>You may be living through bereavement, battling through a broken relationship or struggling through financial hardship. Your self esteem will take a blow.</p>
<p>We all need to feel good about ourselves. To know that we are loved for who we are, and to know that we are unique individuals. One way to rebuild your self esteem is through developing that creative talent within you.</p>
<p>How to develop your creative side</p>
<p>You may think that you are not a creative person because you have never expressed that side of your personality. When you look around at the people you know, you can recognise a creative side to their nature. They may be good at poetry or painting. Maybe they are able to create beautiful flower displays or make something with wood.</p>
<p>It may surprise you to know that you have a creative side. You may have lost your self confidence when you tried something and failed many years ago. There was no one at the time to encourage you to try again or maybe they even put you down. So you let that small burning light go out.</p>
<p>Well the spark is still there. It may need some fanning into life again, but it can be done. So how can you start to bring your creative side back to life?</p>
<p>Here are 10 ideas to light your flame:-</p>
<p><strong>1.	Do something this week that you have never done before</strong>. This could mean something small like cooking or trying a new dish, or it could be a big thing like booking that trip to China. Then make a list of other things that you would like to do for the first time.</p>
<p><strong>2.	Check out your local evening classes or community college.</strong> Do they have a course that really stirs something in you? Learn Spanish? Write poetry? Paint? Ask that friend of yours how they became so good at what they do?</p>
<p><strong>3.	Go to the theatre to see a play</strong>, or read a different kind of book to what you normally read. Read some inspirational books.</p>
<p><strong>4.	Write a letter to a friend </strong>(hand write with pen and ink!)</p>
<p><strong>5.	Get that camera out of the drawer</strong> and take some photos of your town.</p>
<p><strong>6.	Keep a journal. </strong>You will be surprised how significant some of the seemingly small daily events are. Or carry a small notebook around with you and jot down those great ideas as you get them.</p>
<p><strong>7.	Join a group.</strong> It could be the local history society, the amateur gardening group, or the photographic society (to get some even better tips on taking pictures around your town). A group can help to spark off new ideas in you and get those creative juices flowing.</p>
<p><strong>8.	Do the good things that you always do</strong> – in a different way. Find a good and productive alternative to some of the things that you need to change.</p>
<p><strong>9.	Start to draw or even doodle.</strong> You will be surprised at what comes out.</p>
<p><strong>10.	If you get stuck. See a Life-Coach!</strong> They will know how to ask the challenging questions and help you set the goals you need to achieve your heart’s desire. They can help you to light your fire! If you cannot afford a coach, find someone you can trust and share your dreams with them.</p>
<p>Releasing your creativity is about changing the way you think. You are unique, so try your own individual approach to everything you do. You don’t need to be alone in doing this. Today is a new day, like a blank sheet, or a fresh canvas. <strong>Create your day!</strong></p>

You should surround yourself with people who are positive and supportive, and shun friends who are cynical and negative. You will respect yourself more, and your self-esteem will grow. </span></span></p>

They know their personal worth, and act accordingly. A good way to improve your personal worth is to make a list of your accomplishments every day. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Assertiveness is a life skill; useful both inside and outside work. However, the reactions and behaviors we employ now are the result of years of fine tuning. Being assertive doesn’t happen overnight, but the more practice you get, the more skilled you become. And while you may not always get what you want, you will always know you gave it your best. So here are the top ten tips for improving your assertive behavior:</p>
<p>1. Believe in yourself more &#8211; always think positively and feed yourself with positive inner dialogue. Stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and tell yourself how wonderful you are!</p>
<p>2. Recognize that you can never change other people. You can only change yourself. A change in your behavior will give others the opportunity to behave differently towards you.</p>
<p>3. Learn to respond, not react. Start choosing how to behave, based on admitting and accepting the consequences. Accept that you – and only you – have made that choice: nobody has forced you into it.</p>
<p>4. Stop beating yourself up for your decisions and behaviors. Instead, turn every situation into a positive learning opportunity for future behavior change.</p>
<p>5. Make sure your body language is in step with your words. People tend to believe what they see rather than what they hear.</p>
<p>6. Use the green cross code: Stop Look Listen &#8211; then think about how you want to respond. This will ensure you stay in control of you and the situation, and afford others the opportunity to do so as well.</p>
<p>7. Aim for situation resolution, not self defence. Concentrate on the situation rather than your own feelings, and recognize that the other person is most probably angry about the situation &#8211; not with you.</p>
<p>8. Consider and choose your words. Lose the words that signal “I’m a pushover” such as “I’m terribly sorry”, or “I’m afraid”, or “Could you possibly…?” or “Can I just …?”. Substitute big “I” statements followed by factual descriptions instead of judgments or exaggerations. This will encourage the other person to do the same.</p>
<p>9. Say “no” when you want to. Don’t forget to give yourself all of the rights you allow everyone else to have. And if it helps, remember that you are not refusing them personally, you are refusing their request.</p>
<p>10. Take a “can do” attitude. Believe that things don’t just happen to you – but that you can make them happen.</p>
